Designing the experience

Designing the experience

When you walk into a well-designed hotel, you may not be able to pinpoint exactly what makes it beautiful but you just know that it is. Hotel design encompasses technicality and artistry to provide an indirect experience for guests. Seven Pines Resort Ibiza worked closely with multidisciplinary design firm Kitzig Design Studios International to create spaces that exude the values on which the hotel is founded and to reflect the natural beauty of Ibiza.

Informed by the stunning views of the Mediterranean and the monolithic rock of Es Vedra, the Kitzig team started from a premise of sun-kissed spaces bathed in the sea air. “We’ve brought the surroundings right into each individual building,” says Olaf Kitzig, CEO of Kitzig Design Studios International. The undulating shapes of the sea and the natural world are reflected through materials such as stone and wood combined with the gloss and polish of brass, stainless steel, glass and lacquer.

Kitzig Design Studios International created spaces that exude the values on which the hotel is founded and reflecting the natural beauty of Ibiza.

The textured roughness of the natural stone floor at the entrance gives the guest the first impression of the traditional aspects of Ibizan design, bringing an ancient and local ingredient into the modern space of the lobby. Shimmering brass plates provide a backdrop for the sweeping characters of the Seven Pines logo, reminiscent of the gleaming scales of a fish swimming through the sea. Columns are encased in shining coral shapes sidling up to the ceiling giving the feeling of an underwater haven. You have arrived.

Each of the spaces within the lobby lounge has been orientated to take full advantage of the striking views. A touch of Danish chic is transmitted through wood and suede armchairs while a quirky beach vibe comes via wicker basket chairs and sandy tones, the images of a seascape further encapsulated via a pod of natural fibre pendants, floating above like glowing anemones. Gossamer curtains gently sway around floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea’s kaleidoscope blues.

The lobby bar extends from the lounge area, infusing the space with subdued warmth before opening to the magnificence of the Pershing Yacht Terrace. Here Kitzig Interior Design International collaborated with global luxury yacht company Pershing to create this masterpiece of design. Stainless steel glimmers against glass panels, reverberating with the clean lines of a Pershing Yacht. Oversized bean bags, wood tables, plush sofas and woven armchairs mimic the yacht’s luxurious deck while a traditional dry stone wall borders the incredible 180-degree views.

Seven Pines Resort Ibiza has quickly become a destination for weddings, corporate events, conferences and meetings. The first-floor reception building hosts a multifunctional event space providing flexibility, style and connectivity, matched with the same exceptional views enjoyed throughout the rest of the hotel. Inspiration is easy to come by within this space, the glittering sea matched with subdued tones and natural materials. And while corporate types get to work, loved-up couples will find romance oozing from every corner.

When it came to selecting a name for the main restaurant it was immediately obvious. The View opens for breakfast and dinner serving up European culinary delights with a slightly Korean kick. The design here is simplified to allow the vistas to shine. Natural quarry stone, oaks, fine fabrics, bronze and copper provide a tonal complement to the blues of the sea and sky. Encased in glass panels that open to the summer breeze not a single vantage point is obscured. This really is a room with a view.

Open until late, the Cone Club is host to relaxed wining and dining. Influenced by the menu of Mediterranean sharing plates with hints of Arabic and Asian flavours, the design here takes on an internationalist bohemian flair. The 150-seat dining room features a cosy corner booth sheathed in bare stone walls. Colourful bead curtains demarcate various sections adding a cheeky boho glint to the room. Outside on the terrace, canopied lounges make the perfect spot for witnessing the orange glow of sunset transform into glittering stars.

The 1,500 square metre Pure Seven spa & wellness centre incorporates a blend of materials and textures designed to induce deep relaxation.

Pure Seven is one of the most distinctive spas on the island, not only for its wellness and beauty treatments but also for its style. Calm and meditative the 1,500 square metre space incorporates a blend of materials and textures designed to induce deep relaxation. Graphic wood cut panels, rounded walls clad in a textured pattern and coarse stone surfaces are highlighted with subtle gold and pale wood accents. The terraces are scattered with ochre woven sun beds overlooking the plunge pool and the amazing views.

Throughout all the buildings within the Seven Pines Resort Ibiza complex, the unifying element is the sea. From this striking start, the team at Kitzig Design Studios International developed a unique style encompassing the traditional materials and cultural heritage of the island with the needs of the modern global traveller. The result is a beacon of comfortable luxury where the boundaries between high design and the guest are seamlessly composed.
