The art and science of good night’s sleep

In today’s hectic world it’s harder than ever to switch off, particularly once night descends. With brains full of to do lists and endless images of the day darting behind the eyes, dozing off can be a real struggle – one that’s affecting more and more of us in modern times. In recent surveys, it’s been discovered that as many as one-third of us sleep for only five to six hours a night – two hours less than the recommended amount – and this can lead to a myriad of negative effects in our lives. From lowered immune systems and slower thinking to increased health problems, all can be triggered by a lack of shut-eye.

This is why we take sleep very seriously here at 7Pines Resort Ibiza. It’s our aim to ensure that every single one of our guests leaves feeling relaxed, rested and rejuvenated, and while we can help on that front by providing first class facilities – like an infinity pool to bliss out next to, our Pure Seven wellness centre to surrender to Zen-inducing treatments at, and an array of restaurants where you can fill up with culinary excellence before hitting the sack – we know that one of the best ways we can help is by providing the kind of environment that’s simply primed for good sleep.

We take great pride in offering our guests a multitude of options when it comes to pillows, duvets and linen – we all have different requirements when it comes to getting a sound night’s sleep, and our menu is designed to reflect this. Need more neck support? Not a problem. Prone to allergies? We can help on that front too. And of course, it goes without saying that our rooms and beds themselves offer a deeply luxurious sense of comfort, not to mention blackout curtains to block out the sunlight – an obvious but essential way to trigger a transformative state of sleep.

Let’s go back to the wide-ranging selection of pillows there are to choose from at 7Pines Resort Ibiza. There’s the classic Royal Pillow for starters – covered in 100% cotton so it’s light and breathable, it’s filled with 70% super luxurious down feather. For an even squishier head rest, there’s the premium Special Pillow, filled with 90% down feather. This one also has the added bonus of providing more warmth, so it’s great for the cooler months. For those allergic or averse to feather-filled products, we also have the Non-Allergy Pillow, which again is 100% cotton, but this time filled with silicon-coated fibre balls.

Delving further into the pillow menu gets even more innovative. Take the Anti-Ageing Pillow for instance – not only is it covered in 100% cotton, it’s also infused with vitamin E which is kind to delicate skin on the face. Filled with light, small feathers, this pillow helps to reduce and prevent sleep wrinkles while simultaneously providing optimum neck and head support. And then there’s the Conform Neck Supporting Pillow filled entirely with latex and with a removable jersey cover, this pillow molds to the contours of the head and neck. It’s also naturally hypoallergenic, which makes it another great option for people with allergies.

We also have the Cherry Stone Pillow in supply. At 40 centimetres long, it’s made with 100% cotton and filled with cherry stones. This item can be warmed in the microwave, which makes it soothing for those with joint or cervical pain. It’s 100% natural, biodegradable and durable, and its small size makes it perfect for children. Finally, there’s the Spelt Pillow. Aromatic and filled with organic spelt, this pillow absorbs humidity. It’s also comforting for anyone suffering from cystitis or rheumatic pain. Sleeping on spelt pillows is also said to improve mood and eliminate tensions in the body through micro massage of muscles and joints.

There are two types of duvet to choose from, too. The Standard (which also comes in kids’ size), which is made using 100% cotton and stuffed with 90% down feather. And the Non-Allergy, filled with the silicon-coated fibre balls. Both have meet the standards of Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex, the world’s most well-known labels for textile testing. Qualifying for this label means that every button, thread and additional material has been tested for harmful substances and is therefore harmless in human ecological terms. So guests can sleep soundly in the knowledge that they, and their children, are wrapped up in the safest materials around.

In addition to choosing the perfect pillow and duvet, it’s also worth capitalising on the relaxation that’s infiltrated body and mind after a day at 7Pines Resort Ibiza with a few other simple measures. Guests can lower the room temperature before bed, for instance, because this has been proven to aid sleep. They can reduce blue light exposure, which means switching off phones, iPads and laptops while in bed. They can avoid caffeine late in the day, and in spite of the temptation to live like a local, it’s probably best give siesta a miss. Take the time to invest in good sleep during your stay with us, and you’re sure to go home feeling better than ever.
